Of Wordless

"The universe is reflected in the mirror of the Self, like a city reflected in a lake.”                                                         - Shankara .....Words do not possess intrinsic meanings; however, when uttered from the deepest core of being, they become spontaneous outpourings of the Heart. Like the fragrance of gardens carried effortlessly by the wind, they join the dance of existence, transcending the commonplace. In this glorious moment, a silence from beyond begins to unfold. When words stem from the Heart, they out of the blue appear significant and full of meaning; a meaning that passeth understanding, nurturing a profound seeing.  The same seemingly meaningless words transform into a Gita or an Upanishad or a Bible and something of the Wordless starts descending into the words. Thus, the individual is also meant ...

The Guest Within

The Guest Within We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.                              Pierre Teilhard de Chardin The human experience is often a journey of seeking; seeking happiness, meaning, love, and fulfilment. Yet, throughout the history of humanity, a few rare beings a Krishna, a Jesus, a Zarathustra, a Buddha, a Kabir, a Nanak and a Mahavira have realized that what we truly seek is not something external but an inherent presence within us. This presence, often veiled by conditioning, is the unspoiled essence of our being—the Guest Within. To receive this Guest is to transcend the mechanical operations of the conditioned mind and enter the realm of pure awareness, the Heart. The Mind: A Prison of Conditioning The mind, in its natural state, is boundless and clear, like an unclouded sky. However, over time, through societal influen...

Transcending Borders

Transcending Borders   Narendra Singh Negi and the Ethos of Romanticism Narendra Singh Negi, a poetic voice resonating through the gorgeous valleys of the Uttarakhand Himalayas, exemplifies the Romantic sensibility in a manner that transcends mere physical landscapes. His songs and poems, much like the European Romantics and American Transcendentalists, echo a longing for transcendence; an existential wish to connect profoundly with nature, humanity, and the cosmos. What sets Negi apart is his use of the vernacular tongue, drawing from the everyday life of shepherds, grass reapers, and villagers, blending the simplicity of the life of hill folk with the profound depth of Romantic thought. Negi’s songs and poems, akin to the poetic expressions of Romantic poets like Wordsworth, Keats, and Robert Frost, reflect an unfathomable reverence for nature. His lyrics whole-heartedly celebrate the feelings of love with a deep exploration of the human condition. Yet, h...

A Dance with Time

A Dance with Time Leeladhar Jaguri’s “A Morning Are You” and the Romantic Tradition Leeladhar Jaguri’s one of the beautiful poems "A Morning Are You" is rich with its profound depth and mystical essence. It evokes the spirit of Romanticism; a literary movement that aimed to go beyond the boundaries of human experience by uniting the individual self with nature and time. The poem's investigation of temporality, reminiscence, and the symbolic significance of a morning infuses it with the thematic affluence reminiscent of poets like William Wordsworth, and John Keats, and the later Romantic sensibility found in poets such as Robert Frost. This chapter aims to draw parallels between Jaguri's work and the global tradition of Romanticism, emphasizing the shared ethos of nature, time, memory, and transcendence. Morning as a Symbol of Eternity: The Romantic Tradition Jaguri's poem centers on the image of a morning that transcends time—"Beyond o...
